This teaching is aimed at introducing the listener to some of the concepts associated with studies of the ancient Near East and how connections are made between recently discovered archaeological evidence and the Scriptures that we know and love. The recent research that has been done by many scholars has opened the door for us to understand many parts of Scripture that were previously hard to understand due to our gap in knowledge of the culture and customs in Biblical times.
In this teaching, Ryan will use the culture, customs, and political language of the ancient Near East to give an overview of how to understand the Torah in its original context – as an ancient Near Eastern treaty. Ryan will also introduce to you the political language of the times to help understand key verses throughout the Scriptures. In particular, Royal Grant treaties, Suzerainty treaties, and Parity treaties will be covered.
